Hi.
I'm Caitlin Decker, a first year medical student.
Listen to this wild fact.
I just learned over 4.5 million animal bites happen every year in the US.
Millions of us discovering the ouch way that pets have teeth.
The kicker?
Just because it's from our Fido doesn't mean it's harmless.
Kids get bitten most often on the face and on the head.
Oh, dogs cause most bites, but cats can leave tiny punctures that sneakily get infected.
About one inch five bites do, especially on the hands.
Or if the wound is deep.
And in the great outdoors.
Think about rabies, bats an raccoons are the usual suspects.
So here's the deal for any bite.
First, wash it thoroughly wit soap and water for 15 minutes.
Next, get checked by a healthcare professional.
You might need antibiotics, stitches, or vaccinations.
Finally, teach our kiddos to be pets.
Gentle.
Gentle.
I'm Caitlin Becke with my medical student minute.
