(light music) - I've been looking at the moon and I've noticed that it looks like it's made of Swiss cheese.
It may look like it's made of cheese, but it's not really.
Ha!
Now, the moon is mostly made of rock and metal.
Just like the earth, yeah.
I've also noticed that the size of the moon changes.
Some nights the moon looks big and round, like a grapefruit.
Some nights, it only looks like half a grapefruit.
And sometimes, it looks like a banana, ha, ha!
All this talk actually, about the moon, is making me hungry.
Yeah.
What do you notice when you look at the moon?
(light music) - I think the moon's simply amazing.
How far away is it?
It's way up there.
It would be fun to travel, explore.
I wonder what we'd see along the way.
Well friends, it's time for today's one, two, three sentence story.
Beginning, middle, end.
Let's write a story in three sentences.
In the first sentence, let's set the scene.
In the second sentence there is a problem.
Oh, ho, ho, no!
But don't worry.
In the third sentence there is a solution.
So, I love nouns for this.
A person, place, or thing.
Now, we never know where these stories are going to go.
Where will they take us?
What will the problems be?
How will we solve it?
It's a very short story, three sentences.
So, let's see, maybe it takes us to the moon.
Oo, a swan.
Okay.
Hm, I'm thinking.

Okay.
My friend Swan and I wanted to take a trip to the moon.
Yeah, I just decided that Swan, my friend Swan and I, we're going to go to the moon!
Because that's what the show's about.
So, there's the moon.

Am I going to have a rocket ship?
Am I going to have... Are we going to just float and fly?

We were planning to have a pizza party there, but we forgot to bring the pizza.

What would be a solution to it?
I just don't know.

My friend Swan and I decided to take a trip to the moon.
We planned to have a pizza party, but we forgot to bring pizza!
I decided to call my friend Parrot, who flew up right away with tacos.
Ha, ha, ha!
Because my friend Parrot, I know my friend Parrot.
I could have said bring some pizza, but I knew it would work best, I just figured it would be okay, because I know Parrot loves tacos.
So it's going to be a taco party.
Right?
I think that's a rough draft.
Hey Jim, any revisions?
Any initial thoughts or feedback?
- [Jim] No, I like your idea.
I like it, it's good.
- Yeah, I guess Parrot could have brought pizza but for some reason I just, in the story, decided tacos.
- [Jim] You know what?
I like that it was surprising, right.
It was unexpected.
You go, what, I thought we were having pizza and now we're having tacos.
It's all good.
- Yeah.

- So what I need you to do is I want you to think, if you're going to be in a rocket ship for three days, what would you bring with you to the moon?
Because it takes three days to get there.
We can't stop anywhere and pick something up.
We have to pack before we go.
So, Sparky are we ready?

All right, so we're going to go to the rocket ship.

We asked some of our play at home players to come up with a title.
So, let's see if we've got some titles for our story.
It's about the moon.
It's the rocket ship.
Oh, this was one of the ideas for the title.
"Fly Me to the Moon!"
I like that.
That's got a lot of action to it.
Oh, another title could have been, "Pizza Party on the Moon."
Oo, for some reason that sounded like a start of a song.

"Party in the Sky."
I like these titles.

Hey Jim, what do you think about making a song with any of those?
- [Jim] Yeah, I think you are unto something.
I was getting excited.
I go, oo, we're going to start writing a song now too.
- I know!

I've used my imagination to fly up to the moon!
