(upbeat music) - Hey, Detroit.
(audience cheering) Are you feeling it?
(audience cheering) Planetary citizens, kings, queens, and in-betweens, brothers and sisters, my name is Ismael, director of the Concert of Colors.
(audience cheering) Let me say, 17 years ago, I ended up having a dinner with a guy that I did not know, and we bonded over Detroit.
As far as I'm concerned, he's Mr. Detroit.
He fights for Detroit.
He makes music for Detroit.
And has been the head of The Don Was Revue for 17 years.
Let's hear it for Don Was.
(audience cheering) - Ismael Ahmed, man.
This is a great American, and he's put together a hell of a festival this year.
Thank you, Ish.
(audience clapping) 17 years, huh?
Wow.
- [Audience Member] Oak Park.
- Oak Park rocks.
(laughs) Go ahead and turn the house lights up for a second.
Let me get a look at everybody.
(audience cheering) All right.
(audience cheering) All right, I see a lot of familiar faces out there, man.
This is kind of like a family reunion, but without sibling rivalry.
I dig it.
(laughs) Well, I'm gonna plug in and get ready to play.
Let me introduce the heart and soul of the Detroit All-Star Revue.
She's raising the bar on Kirby and John R. Please welcome our emcee, the great Ann Delisi.
(audience cheering) (Ann laughing) - How are you guys?
(audience cheering) Thank you so much for being here.
I've been at the rehearsals for the past two days.
It's a joy to watch this incredible band behind me, Don's house band.
They've been doing this for quite some time now.
Tonight we're gonna celebrate the blues with some of the most incredible singers and guitarists and performers in the Motor City.
So this is a time for us to celebrate music made here, artists that are here.
And thank you for supporting them.
And as you look and you see all these performers go through the night, check their websites, buy their music, support what they do.
Absolutely.
You should clap for them now.
(audience clapping) So it's time to get started.
And this first artist, boy, he's got some style.
In addition to being a great guitar player and singer.
And he's got six albums to his own credit.
And he kind of grew up listening to the kings, BB, Freddy, and Albert.
And you are gonna be blown away.
And he's got the perfect song to get things started tonight.
Please put your hands together for Chris Canas.
(audience cheering) - How's everybody doing?
Y'all feeling good?
Make some noise out there, y'all.
Let me hear you, Detroit.
Gonna get things started right quick.
This is a song that I wrote for the city that I love, that I was born and raised in.
