I'm here to welcome you to this year's Concert of Colors.

The Concert of Colors was started by Detroit's communities of color to celebrate their cultures and the music of all peoples and to work for peace, love, and justice for all our communities.

I'm Ann Delisi, from Detroit public radio station WDET.

Every year for the past 13 years, Detroit native Don Was steps away from his role as Blue Note Records President and record producer to come to Detroit as a musician and music director for this celebration of music and cultural diversity.

Don and his band of world-class musicians: Luis Resto, Dave McMurry, Brian Roscoe-White, Randy Jacobs, Ron Otis, Ron Pangborn, and Larry Fortangelo, will pay tribute to funk pioneer George Clinton, in celebration of his life and 80 colorful trips around the sun.

Dynamic Detroit singers Nadir Omowale, Coko Buttafli, Apropos, Jennifer Westwood, the Mollywop Singers, and Dames Brown will be joining the Don Was All-Stars to perform music from George Clinton's funkified musical incarnations.

But we're going to start with the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences Choir, groovin' through the streets of Detroit, singing George Clinton's funk anthem, "One Nation Under a Groove."
